On Saturday mornings at the Foothill College observatory there is Solar Viewing through their main telescope. Through the main telescope sunspots are visible. There is a secondary telescope mounted to it with a filter, I think Hydrogen Alpha(HA) filter, which allows prominences to be seen.   I attempted to take pictures with my cell phone. Only the Solar Prominences had any although very mediocre success.
